I think that if you're having a conversation with somebody you shouldn't be texting, it's rude, and it gives off the impression that you're not listening to the person you are talking to. If you're texting while in a conversation it shows you're not paying attention to who you're talking to and it's rude towards the person. It's basically saying, that you're more focused on the person you're texting. I don't approve of texting while someone is having a conversation with you, I find it incredibly annoying and irritating when people do it.
My five etiquette rules for texting is:
1. Don't text while having a conversation with someone in person
2. Text only if you're not being talked to at the moment
3. Don't ever bully anyone through texting
4. Don't be alone texting during a party or any other social event
5. Refrain from texting constantly

cool beans!
